Better than Revival

There are two common approaches to the theme of “revival” among evangelical Christians, and also, unfortunately, among many charismatics. I say “unfortunately” because neither of these approaches reflects the New Testament model. This study will argue for a third approach, which, it will be claimed, does conform to the New Testament pattern. Additionally, Ps. Dennis Plant presents a series of 30-minute video sessions, based on selected chapters of this book.

In “Better Than Revival,” Ken Chant critically examines prevalent evangelical and charismatic views on “revival.” Chant posits that these conventional perspectives don’t align with the New Testament model. Advocating a third approach, he emphasizes its alignment with New Testament principles. The interpretation of “revival” significantly impacts various aspects of church life, from prayer strategies to ministry objectives. One’s revival perspective can influence their approach to prayer, expectations from God, ministry goals, self-perception, church’s role, world view, and church governance. The chosen viewpoint can either see the church as powerless, awaiting revival, or as a proactive entity fulfilling its evangelistic mandate.
