Common Signs of Backsliding

Individual apostasy (backsliding) refers to the deliberate turning away from God and abandoning faith in Christ after initially believing and experiencing His grace. The Greek term “apostasia” means “standing away” from God, highlighting a severe spiritual decline. Apostasy is possible for those who have known the new covenant’s regeneration and sanctification. The Bible issues stern warnings to prevent this fate, urging believers to remain steadfast in their faith. If backsliding continues unchecked, it may reach a point where repentance is no longer possible, leading to eternal separation from God (Heb. 3:12; 10:26-29; 6:4-6).
